PLANNER NEWBIE!!!

So excited about being part of the planner world. I've always been a stickler of trying to keep things organized and entering into this new world is awesome for me. I've spent numerous hours on Etsy, Instagram, Facebook pages, etc. Done research on what's the best planner I can have (that's within my budget) and that would be functional for me. So I decided upon the Happy Planner from "Me and My Big Ideas (www.shop.meandmybigideas.com It cost $24.99. It comes in various designs and sold in various stores/locations.

So I got mine and I'm in love with it. I had been using my homemade planner that I created from using the ARC discbound system from Staples. (blogged about it previously). It was the standard letter size and I was looking for something a little smaller yet large enough to put my information in.

So I joined a few Happy Planner Facebook pages and I started following people and businesses on Instagram. Seeing the styles and such on how to make my planner work and fit my style I began looking on various Etsy shops. Three of my favorite are "Aloha Prints Co", "Stick With Me Shop", and "Sweet Kawaii Design". There are tons of shops that offer stickers, washi tapes, planner designs, etc. Just looking through everything is so much fun for me.

I am currently creating me a work area to have and store all of my planner goods. I want to also have another planner set up for my Dani-Shea(www.dani-shea.com)

I advise anyone that wants to find something that they will give you peace and you will find relaxing as I do, try out planning.

Product Review.......

Okay so this is an oldie but goodie....lol
I absolutely LOVE this go-to style. My wash-n-go is a must when I don't wanna twist or braid my hair. So with that being said, let me tell you about a product that helped me achieve this amazing style.
Kinky Curly Knot Today Leave-In Conditioner and Kinky Curly Curling Custard!!!!
I saw these products on YouTube being used in a wash-n-go and I decided to try it out. Now, I know people are wondering the cost and where to be able to purchase. Well let's just say, I've tried many things from just conditioner, to eco styler gel, etc. and NOTHING has really helped me get the look I was going for. So I found the products in Target. They are a little bit on the pricey end but they, to me, are worth the investment. The conditioner cost just under $12.00 for an 8oz bottle and the custard cost just under $17.00 for an 8oz jar. I said that I would never really pay much for products but when I bought this and tried it, I fell in love instantly.
The KCKT Conditioner is THE BEST. It's a leave-in as well as a detangler. Let me just say that this stuff is like pure silk!!! Heehee!!! Once you finish washing or "co-washing" your hair, use this as a detangler and just watch how SUPER easy the comb/brush/fingers glide through your hair. It makes finger detangling, and such, a thing that everyone with every hair type love. I often don't like to go through that detangling process because I know it takes time (I do it anyway.....lol). This conditioner/detangler cuts that time basically in half for me. It makes one ENJOY the process and not mind having it a part of their hair care regimen. I strongly suggest that anyone looking for something that will help detangle their hair to try this out. It's TOTALLY worth the cost, in my opinion.  Now on to the KCCC. I use this in combination with the conditioner. It's like a lose gel like custard, and not too sticky. It reminds me of my eco styler gel but looser....lol. It smells great and doesn't cause flakes. It goes on clear and dries that way. It helps enhance the curls that you already have. It DOES NOT create curls in your head, just allows natural curl pattern to show even more.
Let me tell you how I use it. After washing and deep conditioning my hair, I put my hair into 4 to 6 sections (small sections work well). I keep my spray bottle (with H2O only) nearby because the key to the perfect wash-n-go is to keep hair saturated (soaked) with water. I take each section (drenched in water) and finger detangle as much as possible and then I add the KCKT Leave-in Conditioner/Detangler. I appy about a nickel size per section. You can always add more if needed (as well as spray hair with water if it begins to dry). I then use my brush and proceed to further detangle as well as allow the leave-in to get on all of the strands of my hair. Lastly, I apply the KCCC to smaller sections of the hair that's sectioned off. I clip the hair out of the way and rake the custard through my hair. Immediately my natural curl pattern pops/enhances. I continue this process throughout my entire head until done. I style my hair in a way I want it to dry. Once I have the style that I like I LEAVE IT ALONE!!! The wash-n-go looks it's best if it's not manipulated too much. In other words,  NO HANDS IN HAIR SYNDROME!!! HeeHee!!! It's best to do this style over the weekend or on a day off work where you won't have to be outside much, unless you are always busy then by all means you can use a handheld or hooded dryer to speed up the drying process.

Great Purchase for Transitioners or Newly Naturals!!!

Okay so I get a lot of questions asked about tips for people wanting to go natural or that have just big chopped and don't know what to use for their hair. I can only stress the importance of finding a basic regimen to use. I, myself, have been natural 1 yr and just a few days shy of 6 months. This item pictured above was one of my life savers. It's the Shea Moisture "Repair & Transition Kit* I purchased it from Walgreens a couple of years ago. It cost around $22.00 for the kit. As stated on the kit, it is designed to repair chemically treated hair, restore moisture and transition to natural, healthy hair. In my opinion, this is a great purchase for anyone looking to go natural or are new to the natural team.  Shea Moisture has amazing products, in which I can do reviews for another time. This Kit includes: Deep Treatment Masque, Moisture Retention Shampoo, Restorative Conditioner, and Reconstructive Finishing Elixir.  Each size is 4oz. I love the shampoo and conditioner so much I purchased the larger bottles in 13oz. Also, the masque (12oz size) I purchased as well for deep conditioning (will give a review on at a later time). I definitely recommend anyone to try the kit first before making the purchase of larger sizes. Remember, find products that work for your hair type/texture and build a regimen from that. Until next time........stay naturally beautiful!!!!!

How I "Twist Out"....lol =)

Okay so many want to know how I do my twistouts the way it is. My method is SUPER simple. I even do this with my wash n go's and braidouts. I basically follow the LOC method (liquid, oil, and cream) I start with freshly washed and detangled hair. I would suggest to prep hair the night before or on a day you don't have to go out. With my hair damp I took my spray bottle of water and spritzed my hair. I then finger comb my hair. I apply my oil (I used Coconut Oil only) to my hair and then followed up with As I Am Double Butter Cream. I created small to medium sized twists throughout my entire head. The LOC method helps retain moisture in your hair by "LOC'n" in the moisture. I leave the twists in and sleep in a satin bonnet. The next morning I coat my fingers with coconut oil (helps with frizzing) and carefully remove each twist. I then continue to separate the twists to make my hair fuller. I take my hands and fluff at the roots and position how I want my twistout to fall. And that's it. At night time I just retwist the front and sleep in satin bonnet. Get up in the morning take down twist and fluff. My hair is not dry and it's soft to touch. I love the As I Am Double Butter Cream. It's amazing!!! If you can't afford As I Am products I would suggest to purchase any leave in conditioner or cream that's not too heavy and will help with your twistouts (or braidouts).  -Peace and Curls!!!

Week 1 Day 1

Okay, so I had a setback and now I'm back at it. Started back at the gym today. I realize that it's easier for me to go to the gym AFTER work vs DURING work hours. I plan to make weekly short term goals vs something too big of a goal for me to maintain. My motto "SLOW AND STEADY WINS THE RACE"

I realize that I honestly have to do this for me. Not because everyone else has something to say but because I truly care about my health and well being. I want to be able sit and not "breathe heavy".

I'm only 5'3'' and I weigh 194 lbs. Now best believe I'm embarrassed to type that number, however, by mentioning it to the public makes it real to myself. I've tried everything I could. I've had results and got down to 187. But then stopped. I truly believe that because my heart and mindset wasn't truly in it, I started back eating everything that was wrong and gained weight back.

Well, I recently had a reality check. On last week, sitting in the living room with my guy, he turned to me and was like "why you breathing so hard?!" Talk about crushed!!! I didn't even realize that I was breathing heavy just sitting on the couch. So with that, I made a mental note that it's time to repurpose it in my heart and get my mind right.

I'm making weekly goals so that I can keep up with my progress and be able to document/blog it to help others.

I would like to thank @HealtyJenelle for her tips, videos, etc that she documents her weightloss/healthy lifestyle journey. She's truly inspiring and I hope to be able to meet her one day to let her know. (She's even helped me with my natural hair journey....one of the first people I've ever followed since transitioning)

Okay so my goal this week is to build endurance and stamina. I started today with doing 30 minutes straight on the treadmill at a 4.0 incline at 3.0 mpg......my goal by the end of the week is to make it between 3.5 to 4.0. I'm not a runner, however I would like to be able to run one day.

I've stopped drinking pop (which I haven't had in a while anyway) and I'm researching foods. I wanna figure out what works for me. I do know that I love the green smoothies and those helped me before so I definitely plan to keep them in my regimen. As far as other foods and snacks, I definitely need to set an eating/snacking schedule.

I'll continue to document/blog about my progress. Again, I'm doing this for me! If it helps anyone, that would be AWESOME!!!

Until next blog.............TeeKay

My Hair Regimen

I wash and detangle my hair every Saturday (wash day, will also clarify when needed) (will use my fingers most times and maybe a comb when needed).

I am a firm believer of the LOC method (liquid, oil, cream).

I deep condition every week.

When styling for twist outs or braid outs, I still follow the LOC method and prep hair in a damp state (soaking
wet hair takes forever to dry).

I use which ever styling cream or Dani-Shea Whipped butter to prep my twists/braids.

I do not use any heat on my head (I believe in allowing my hair to air dry).

I sleep with a satin pillowcase, satin scarf and/or satin bonnet.

I do a hot oil treatment every two weeks (opposite of my deep conditioning weeks).

My main goal is to ALWAYS keep my hair clean and well moisturized!

New Items of Dani-Shea!!! =}

I'm excited about the revamp of Dani-Shea.  Through lots of research and speaking with my small business owner mentor, I realize that less is more. So I decided to find a branding that I absolutely love. Anyone that knows me know that I love colors  (although purple and red are my favorite two colors). So I switched things up a bit.

I did an assessment of what inventory I had and what products were top sellers. I came to the conclusion that the whipped butters were a sure fire hit, as well as the Fresher Koils Moisturizing Detangler.
I decided to make a limited amount (as requested) of the black soap shampoo, herbal oil, lip balms, and moisturizing hair milk because where they were selling, they still weren't  selling as well.
I went back to the original two scents for whipped butters  (coconut lime and unscented) as well as added two additional scents  (jelly bean and lavender). The jelly bean scent was only created as a limited edition for Easter/Spring season but because it sold extremely well and everyone loved it, it's now available all the time.

I  did add two new items. They are body scrubs available in Coconut Lime and Lavender. I've sold quite a few of them and the people have already given great reviews on them. I love body scrubs so I figured why not make my own.

I believe that people can be overwhelmed when given too many options for products. So my motto for the moment is "Less Is More".
These items are simply amazing. I use them all the time. They are made with natural ingredients and has no chemicals in them. They are safe for all. As I always say "Family Approved". You don't have to be a natural in order to use Dani-Shea products.

Lifestyle Change =)

Okay so many may know that I've decided to do a lifestyle change for the betterment of my body. I must say that it's been a hard road to travel however I've done really well in the last week. I started this journey last Monday. I made up in my mind that something has to change. My clothes were starting to get too small and a reality check hit when I had to buy a size 12 jeans instead of being in my happy size of 10. Well enough is enough!!! I took some money and decided to go and buy fresh fruits and veggies. I've done research as to what I would like and plan to do. I have changed my mindset for the better. I know that this road will get easy. I just have to stay committed and persistent.

I have started my very own food journal. It's something that I have to get used to because I have MyFitness Pal on my phone. So I just plug the information in there and then at the end of the day I write down the information in my food journal. I made it myself. It's bound by a discbound system. I love the colors (although my favorite colors are purple and red). As you can see I have a love for owls....lol. Anywho, I also have a 32oz jar/cup that I leave at work. I make it my goal to drink 3 of them full of water for my daily water intake. Let me tell you, that, in itself, is a challenge. I'm one that doesn't care too much for water although I know it's good for me.

I created my own visual. My goal at this time is to lose 30 lbs. So what I've done was purchased these stones and glasses from Dollar Tree. I placed 30 stones in 1 glass and my plan is for every pound I lose, move the stone over. I love visuals and even if I don't weigh in everyday (which I plan to do once a week) I will still be able to see my progress. I found this concept on Instagram. I loved it. I'll probably change it and use brighter colors. But for now this works just fine. (In fact I need to move 3 stones over since I weighed myself this weekend). I lost 3 lbs!!! Woo Hoo!!!

Stay with me as I continue to blog about my life.
Until next blog......TeeKay!!!

Healthier TeeKay

Okay so I'm planning to start my new journey towards a healthy lifestyle.  Eating to live. And living my life to it's fullest.  I went and purchased the start of my clean eating.  I still have a few things to purchase.  Not pictured are my raspberries and blueberries.  I am making small term goals for now. So my first small goal is to lose 1 lb this coming week. I plan to go to the gym at least three times a week and possibly work my way up to five times a week. I'm not a gym fanatic but I want to keep with switching things up so that my entire body benefits from it. Please join me on my healthier lifestyle journey.

#HealthierTeeKay

Hello World!!!
It's TeeKay here giving you an update on my #HealthierTeeKay agenda.
I've been on this green smoothie kick as of lately and I must say I love it. It makes me feel much better. I've noticed that my headaches are far in between to almost non-existant.....lol
I really enjoy them and they definitely curve my appetite for a few hours.
Today I made a Mango/Strawberry Green Smoothie. I used spinach as my green. I haven't tried kale yet but I love spinach. I prepped all of my smoothies in ziploc bags along with my snacks of carrots and celery. I mixed my smoothie with my blender. I don't have a bullet machine but I love how blended the results are. I also love how pretty the green is when blended.

So I also paired my green smoothie with a pink grapefruit. That was my snack while at work. Lol
I think everyone should try a green smoothie at some point.

I'll continue to keep y'all updated on my health journey. I'll post in a little while about my exercise journey.

Until next blog.......

A LITTLE DIY (MY FIRST ONE!!!)................. *SMILES*

Okay so I decided to try my hand at my own DIY. I am in the process of creating a nice and cozy office space in my deluxe studio apartment.  So my first project consisted of two cans, contact paper, and scissors (excuse the kitchen scissors, I didn't have access to my regular ones at the time). Yep!!! Just those items. Lol

So I placed the can against the contact paper and pretty much just used the lines/grid on the back of the contact paper as my guide. I carefully wrapped the contact paper around the cans and folded the extra paper down into the top of the cans.

Afterwards, I used the smaller can to hold some highlighters and I used the large can for my gel pens, ball point pens, Sharpie highlighters, and pencils.

And look................aren't these just the cutest!!!! *smiles*

Such a SUPER simply DIY that anyone can do. My plan is to find me a coffee can so that I can have the three sizes and also to find more contact paper.

Until next blog..............

Planner Adjustment.......

So I've  fallen in love with planners and I wanted something to have for myself that didn't cost me a lot of money.  So I went to Staples and Target and found a few items to enhance my planner.  This is the result.  It's large enough for me to write in and makes my weeks easier because I can now plan ahead of time. I think everyone should have a planner. I'm not a pink kind of girl so I may change the cover. However I am happy with what I've created.  I found the planner print outs on Uncluttered Lifestyle's blog. I got my cute cover from LimeLife Planners. These print outs were free. I got my arc planner system from Staples along with post-it flags, cute washi tape, and such. From Target is where I got gel pens, large paper clip bookmarks, etc. I'm definitely going to continue to use this planner all the time. It was a great investment and I will continue to build with it. May even create a smaller version next.  ;-)

#HealthierTeeKay

Okay, so not many know my story. I've been dealing with Hypertension for the past few years. Even on medication (that I don't like to take *yuck*) Well I'm deciding (in little stages......lol) to start taking care of me. I've made small changes like no longer drinking pop/soda. I don't even remember when the last time I had a pop/soda. I also pulled up some not so recent, yet not so throwback, pics of me and how I was some pounds lighter. I also pulled out my DASH Eating Plan book (http://dashdiet.org). I've had this for years and I was tired of just seeing it sit to the side and not be used. I have been reading all afternoon. It's full of information and even has a 7 day eating plan with two different sodium levels. Everything looks to be super easy. So for me, it's all about making a commitment to a "Healthier TeeKay"!!!.
I realized how much I spend taking care of my natural hair and realized I was still mad at myself because I was overweight and was ALWAYS eating. I'm quick to tell someone that I love to eat and how I make sure not to miss any meals. But I'm not realizing that it's taking a toll on my body as well as my clothes. I'm limited to what I can wear now and most of those clothes are like jeans and t-shirts. I was at a barbecue, on my birthday, and went to use the host restroom. Well, lo and behold, there was a scale in there. I haven't weighed myself in a very long time, so I don't know what made me get on that scale. Well, to my surprise, I was lighter that what I felt. The scale said that I weighed 195.4 lbs. I just knew that the scale was going to read over 200 lbs. I felt every bit of that and way more. I haven't weighed myself since then. It's been 1 month exactly. I guess it's time to invest in a scale so that I can do a monthly weigh in.
I made small changes so far, again, no pop/soda, no flammin' hots (my favorites), no overly seasoned foods, not too much processed foods, etc. With the help of my twin, I was able to determine how much water, per day, I am to drink. So my daily water intake is 98 ounces. I have a cup that's 36 oz and I drink three of those every day. I've even signed up on MyFitnessPal (username: msteekay79). Per the information I provided, my daily calorie is 1,440. I know the average women's calories is 1,200, but that's not mine. I love that app and I've been using it for almost a week now. I have also incorporated walking into my "Healthier TeeKay". I have the MapMyFitness app (in sync with MyFitnessPal) and I briskly walk to the bus stop and I get off a few blocks from the job and briskly walk there. On my way home I get off 4 blocks away and briskly walk home. So far, I've gotten in close to 30 mins in a day. My small goal is to stay consistent with 30 minute "brisk" walking everyday. I realize it takes time and commitment and a support system. My twin has been behind me and pushing me to make the small changes need to start my goal weight towards a "Healthier TeeKay".
My plan is to keep going with my mind set on being well. I plan to blog/document my journey and I would appreciate you joining in with me. Even if I could be a help to someone that's going through this as well, that would be great.
Well, I'll end now. Follow me on Instagram/Twitter: @msteekay79 and Facebook: TeeKay79

Hair Deets.....Shingling

Shingling (or Wash N Go), method done using all Dani-Shea products (whipped butter,  herbal oil, & fresher koils detangler/moisturizer) and eco styler gel (blue one for color treated hair and a level 5 hold - use what works for you)
Hair freshly washed and detangled using black soap shampoo and deep conditioned for 30 minutes using the cleansing conditioner by Dani-Shea.  I then sectioned hair in 8's (smaller sections work easier). Each section I did the following: sprayed fresher Koils, detangled with fingers at times using a wide tooth comb; applied herbal oil to scalp and massaged with fingertips (not using my nails - may cause scalp irritation); applied cranberry whipped butter mainly to ends of hair; took each section and broke down to much smaller sections and applied eco styler gel;  smooth thru hair and then proceed to separate in smaller parts allowing natural curl pattern to form. May be done on damp to wet hair. My hair was about 40% dry when I started. Process took a little over an hour. Allow hair to air dry or if pressed for time use blow dryer with diffuser (or just on low heat setting focusing on scalp); air drying time depends on each person. Once hair was completely dry I took a nickel size amount of herbal oil and used the "praying hands" method to apply along length of hair. This is what is called "breaking the cast" of the gel. In other words your hair won't be hard/helmet like and will have movement.  For a fuller look like I LOVE,  take your pick and gently lift at roots. This is my first time trying this and I LOVED the results.  Hair gets bigger and fuller as the days go by. I plan to create this style again and will make sure I record it for YouTube. Have a great evening.

Something Different and New for Dinner...........

Okay so I decided that with the help of my planner and writing down food ideas on my weekly agenda, it's causing me to be able to think on new cooking ideas.

With that being said.......
I found a super easy recipe online to make Curry Chicken and Rice. It was soooooooooooooooo good. It was a hit in my household by the Mr. *smiles*

The website I found the recipe on is: http://www.food.com/recipe/super-simple-super-quick-chicken-curry-and-rice-370684

Here a pic of my plate..................you can see the steam/smoke coming from the plate. I adjusted some of the spices, added a little more curry and crushed red pepper flakes and it definitely had some kick. So if you like spicy foods, you would love this dish. I didn't have pita bread however croissant rolls worked just fine.

New Organization 2015!!!

Hello Everyone!!!

So I decided to switch things up a bit this year of 2015. I'm realizing that I need much organization in my life. So with that being said, I have decided to go back to the basics and have a yearly planner. I used to use a planner years ago and I stopped since I got a smartphone. Well, that's over and done with. I love my smartphone, however it's much easier for me to write things down. I've been on everything from Instagram to Etsy looking and researching for the right style of planner and I finally found a way to create my own. I know that many may be thinking that having a physical planner is a thing of the past. Well it's not for me. I didn't have it available for the month of January but I have been using it this month and so far it's been AWESOME!!!!

Since I'm starting back with using an actual planner I've started collecting a few things that would make my planner one that I love and enjoy. For example, stickers, post-its, highlighters, washi tape, gel pens in cute colors, etc.

I love Staples and Target and so far those two places are where I've been to start my planner. At the moment my planner is in a Five-Star 1" inch flexible binder. I definitely plan to switch over to a discbound system. I love the sleekness of it and how easy it is to maintain.

Well, with that being said, I'll end here. Will post more at another time.

Have a great evening everyone!!!!
